Application
The NRT Flake AnalyzerTM is the world's first automated instrument for accurate high speed spectral analysis of plastic flakes. A typical application is the fast and accurate parts-per-million measurement of PVC contamination in flake produced in the recycling of PET.
For example, the laboratory in a PET processing plant must analyze many samples of flake each day. As a practical matter, the samples are reduced in size, but this affects how well the sample represents the large volume of production flake. The smallest Flake AnalyzerTM can process 25 lb/hr (11 kg/hr), allowing quick analysis of larger samples.
Technology
In 1997 the U.S. EPA selected NRT to develop a small particle polymer-specific flake sorting technology. In 1999, in response to industry needs, the EPA and NRT expanded the program to include development of a high-speed, accurate analysis instrument for quality and process control. The resulting NRT Flake AnalyzerTM system combines leading edge infrared spectroscopic detection of polymers with proprietary, high-speed algorithms to scan, identify, and analyze polymer flakes.
